Tuition
Payment is accepted monthly, due on the first day of each month. Each month is the same cost based on a term rate containing 18 weeks, with additional weeks in the term allotted toward make-ups. Students may also purchase these weeks as extra lessons when no make-ups are necessary. If a student begins mid-semester, the tuition will be prorated accordingly. Lessons during the summer term months of July and August are paid by the number of lessons requested, with a minimum of six.
Attendance
1. Students are expected to attend their scheduled lesson promptly each week. The day and time are specifically reserved for the student.
2. Please provide 15 minutes notice ahead of a scheduled lesson time if the student will be more than five minutes late. Lessons may not be extended due to tardiness.
3. It is the responsibility of the parent/student to contact me 24 hours in advance for absences due to illness or other family emergencies. Lessons missed without 24 hours notice will be made up at the teacher’s discretion.
4. Parents/Students will provide notice a month in advance for planned absences.
5. Students must sign up for a minimum of six lessons during the summer months of July and August to maintain their current time slot for the year.
Make-ups
1. Provided sufficient notice (or teacher approval) has been given, the student will qualify for a make-up lesson.
2. Each student is allotted two excused make-ups/cancellations per term during the school year, as regular attendance is essential to the progress of a student. The school year terms run from September to January, and February to June. Surpassing this limit will result in the student’s time slot becoming available for another pupil or discontinuance of lessons. If the student enters the studio mid-semester, they are allotted one make-up. In the case of sudden illness or unexpected conflict, the opportunity for an online lesson at the same lesson time is offered. A parent must be present for online lessons.
3. In the case of sudden illness or unexpected conflict, the opportunity for an online lesson at the same lesson time is available. A parent must be present for online lessons.
4. Missed/make-up lessons have no monetary value and may not be applied toward future payments.
5. All teacher cancellations will be made up on a different day or refunded.
6. I am unable to offer multiple timeslot options on a regular basis to accommodate student schedules. A student must come to one timeslot throughout the term.
Calendar
A studio calendar with be provided at the beginning of each term with lesson cancellation and recital dates. This will clarify which dates have cancelled lessons.
Discontinuance of Lessons
Lessons may be discontinued at the end of the current semester, and with two weeks notice during the summer.
Student Expectations
1. The student is expected to practice a minimum of the set amount of hours per week expressed by the teacher. Beginners must practice a minimum of three hours a week, while advanced students must practice a minimum of seven.
2. The student is expected to come to each lesson prepared with all learning materials.
3. It is imperative that the student read music as a second language, and dedicate themselves to proper technique.
4. While it is strongly advised that each student participates in studio recitals, students who find this to be overwhelming are instead required to attend one studio recital a year. Nonetheless, this alternative is not intended to be a solution for lack of preparedness.
Practice Expectations
The teacher will instruct the student on proper practicing techniques each week. It is the responsibility of the student to increasingly integrate them within their daily practice. Parental assistance is often necessary for younger students. If parents request directions for home practice, the teacher will incorporate this into the student’s lesson time as needed.
Parent Expectations
Parents are expected to support their child’s ability to practice, and provide a regular time each day when they student can do so. Furthermore, parental accountability is crucial for students of all ages. It is recommended that parents check with students each week to make sure assignments are completed and to offer encouragement.
These expectations are set to facilitate the student's success, as well as encourage the enjoyment of music making!
